Lawrence Kohlberg's Theory Applied in the Classroom
Lawrence Kohlberg’s Moral Development Theory can be used to help with classroom management. One way is to use the theory is to know which category the students are in. Knowing this will help me to know what ways they will reason through their moral dilemmas in the classroom. If a student is in the second stage and tries to make up an excuse, it will be an excuse that will make the student look like they are still doing good. Knowing as a teacher I have to be a good role model, not all excuses will be allowed. Understanding this reasoning can help with managing the class to allow all the students to learn the most. Students excuses for not turning in their homework or not doing their project can take up needed class time. Letting the students know from the first day that they must come before or after class to discuss a problem they might have can be the solution. This will still give the other students in the class an opportunity for a full class with no time taken out of the lecture.
