Reflection
Throughout my EDPSY 251 class, I have learned the different ways adolescence develop, think, reason, and mature. Learning the different theories, models, and concepts will strengthen my abilities as teacher. I have realized that I still have many things I will need to work on become a great teacher. A weaknesses of mine is going
to be involving all of my students no matter their disabilities or
abilities. I have not worked with students with disabilities before.
When I am in a similar situation, I can become shy and not helpful. I
want to take classes and volunteer to help me become understand and able
to teach more comfortable. The same situation for high ability
students, and I plan on taking classes as well. Another weakness is to
get my students to like math and to get them involved. Being
enthusiastic, is one way I want to show my that they should also be
excited and like this subject. Relating the problems to the real world
and choosing many different problem can help keep the students
attention. My third weakness is to get all of my students to get
along with different cultures and diversities. In the town I lived it
there was not very much diversity. Going to college, I have had to
adjust due to all of the different cultures I was faced with. Being open
to everything and discussing it helped in my situation. I want to give
my students the opportunity to be open and share their experiences if
they would like to. A simple question at the beginning of the week of
How was your weekend could start the conversations. The more the
students know about each others cultures the more they can be accepted
and get along with the others in the class.
INTASC Principle 2 means understand that everyone learns differently and as a teacher you have to adapt your teaching styles to try to be inclusive. Teachers should try to teach their students as much as they can and it does not only mean their subject. As a teacher, you are shaping and molding the future of the country. The lessons can vary from the students learning how to be sociable and talkative, to students learning more about themselves as a person and learner, or even learning not just about their subject but about other subjects to broaden their knowledge.
