Sociometric Status Applied in the Classroom
There are problem associated with the different sociometric peer statues that are typical for high school students. (1.3) As a teacher it is important to understand the peer interactions between these different groups. The rejected peer status is know to cause troubled. If there is more than one in the same classroom, it can be helpful to separate them to help cut down some of the interactions that could cause problems. A way to do this is by assigning and helping choosing groups during group time. For the neglected peer status, it can be a challenge for these individuals to branch out. Having each student present an important math topic in a group that they learned the most about can help the student get over this challenge. The neglected student will need to work and talk with the other members in the group. These interaction can cause friendships and a change in the sociometric status.
